Anderson Aquatics in conjunction with the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) is happy to announce they will be offering an Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) Course.

The National Recreation and Park Association offers the premier certification program in swimming pool operation, the Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification. The AFO Program provides the most comprehensive and up-to-date training for pool operators and includes information on water chemistry, disinfection, mechanical systems, operations, healthy pools and safety. Upon successful completion of the AFO Course and open book exam, participants will be certified for 5 years by the National Certification Board in coordination with the National Recreation and Park Association. CEU's are available for this course.

Who Should Attend

Aquatic Directors, Recreation Directors, Water Park Directors, Pool Managers, Aquatic Supervisors, Resort/Hotel/Motel Staff, and any staff member responsible for the operation, maintenance and management of a private or public aquatic facility. 

NOTE: This AFO Course meets the requirement of the Colorado State Health Code 4.9


Full Course: $320 includes instruction, course manual, certification and exam fee. CEM Sales and Service will be sponsoring lunch on Tuesday April 28th.

Renewal: $130 Exam Only, must hold current AFO certificate.

We strongly encourage early registration since space is limited and so that you may receive your course manual in advance of the course.

Red Cross Training & Certifications

Lifeguard Training

Fee: $225

TrainingThe  American Red Cross Lifeguard training  course has both in-water and classroom requirements. Participants must be at least 15 years old and able to complete the perquisite required skills. Upon successful class completion participants will have a two year certification in Lifeguard Training and CPR-PR. 

Required Skills Test:
Prior to class participation all candidates must complete a swimming test which includes:  a 300 yard continuous swim (in this order: 100 yards of front crawl using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing propellant kick, rhythmic breathing can be performed to either the front or side, 100 yds. of breaststroke using a pull, breathe, kick and glide sequence, 100 yds. of either front crawl or breast stroke), a 20 yard swim to a deep water, 10 lb brick retrieval and return to start in 1 minute 40 seconds and  2 minutes of treading water.  Participants will be given recovery time between each required skill.   

Stapleton residents can register via their Active Net account, non residents may fill out the registration form and return.

The Stapleton MCA offers lifeguard training classes at our outdoor facilities.  Those interested in employment as a lifeguard may also consider contacting area municipalities with indoor facilities to inquire about their course schedules. Click Here to see class offerings at other municipalities.

The Stapleton MCA does not typically hire 15-year old lifeguards. The MCA may hire for programming hours if there are positions available and the applicant is certified in Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR and AED.
